Concrete being poured on Lomita sidewalk project!

On April 25 i posted “Sidewalks in Meiners Oaks?” on the Ojai Post, featuring a few photos of the early stages of tearing up both sides of Lomita Avenue in preparation for sidewalks to be installed as part of a Safe Passage to Schools grant (Meiners Oaks Elementary School is on Lomita Ave).

The crew from Toro has been cutting, digging, leveling, and more for a few weeks now. A few days ago the curb/gutter sections were poured (a single machine that looks like an off-road zamboni pours concrete already in that shape!), and today some slabs went down for actual sidewalk!

i presume you mean “they’re”, as in “they are”…do you mean Lomita? We do know that County Supervisor Steve Bennett and his staff occasionally read this blog…what road improvements would you suggest?

Hello, Steve Offerman in Supervisor Steve Bennett’s office here. Thanks for posting the news Evan!

Lomita and S. Lomita will be fully repaved this summer. The repaving will go from Rice across El Roblar to Highway 33, and will include shoulder widening and striping on the Rice-to-Ranch House reach to create room for bikes. The curbs/sidewalks needed to be completed first.

Additionally, we have grant funding to extend the sidewalk up the south side of El Roblar a few blocks too (to the west from Lomita), with construction scheduled to start later this year.

All of the residential streets in Meiners Oaks that having paving that is in bad shape are scheduled to be repaved in 2012. The list hasn’t been drawn up yet.

Feel free to call with questions, 654-2703

New photos added just now! They were taken a day or two ago, and it was overheard this morning that they expected to be finished by today. Anyone been down or near Lomita to confirm?

Just added my final photos (all of them appear arranged by the order in which they were taken). How are you liking the new sidewalks, driveways, letterboxes, crosswalks, etc on Lomita?
